When it comes to your wedding day you want to make sure everything runs smoothly. It is an exciting milestone in your life and my goal is to make sure it all goes off without a hitch. That being said there are a few legal requirements that you need to have in place before and during the big day. I have put all the details below for you so that you can make sure everything is looked after. I am more than happy to help you out with these requirements.
A ‘NOTICE OF INTENDED MARRIAGE’ must be completed, signatures witnessed and lodged with the celebrant one month and one day prior to the wedding date
Please make sure you have the following ready for our meeting:
- An original birth certificate
- Current drivers licence
- If either party born outside of Australia – a current passport
- If either party have changed their name – proof required
- If either party has been previously married, proof of dissolution of marriage
- All documents must be in English
- With the death of previous husband or wife – original death certificate is required
Please note:
All certificates must be original. Photo copies are not acceptable
Under the marriage act these documents must be produced before the marriage can take place
The law requires that two witnesses over 18 years must be present at the marriage
Both persons intending the marry must be over 19
If one party is between 16 and 18 years of age you are required to obtain: parents consent on the required form and a court order under section 12 of the marriage act.
